HMC building work

At last the building work has begun! The builders (CP Contracts) moved on site and started work at 8am on 3rd January 2006. The following photo’s are the result of the first few days work:

As a building site the church is now strictly out of bounds to all but the builders

(11am 10/1/06)

The platform lift is roughly where the kitchen used to be. Most of the tiles have gone from the roof. All material is being reclaimed where possible (11am 10/1/06)

The doorway beyond the platform lift was the doorway from the kitchen to the hall. There’s no going back!! (11am 10/1/06)

The construction of the outer part of the roof and the condition of the few remaining tiles can be clearly seen. (11am 10/1/06)

The view down the left hand side of the church to the fire escape of the hall. Broken roof tiles lie on the floor.

I’m sure we specified inside toilets!! (11am 10/1/06)

A small grey digger can be seen in front of the platform lift, roughly where the vestry used to be. (11am 10/1/06)

By 3:50pm on 10/1/06 the tiles had all been removed and work was starting on the roofing felt and batons being removed. Sorry about the quality of this photo - it was taken on a mobile phone

By 3:30pm on 11/1/06 the roof beams had begun to be removed. Some are just visible to the left of the picture but not on the right hand side. This was taken on a phone with the sun behind the building

Taking a rest in the skeleton of the hall roof (3:30pm on 11/1/06)
